[edit] Original OLC guide rules

  1. No loading equipment outside of your area; this is to keep people on the builder's port from gaining an unfair advantage over their fellow players on the live port, by having access to commands and ability to learn the statistics of an area.
  2. Before using goto to get into someone else's area, please be sure they have either opened it for other builders to look at (just because the area's imped doesn't mean it's open), or you have their express permission. Areas are supposed to be a surprise for all to discover, and knowing the secrets beforehand would be considered gaining an unfair advantage over other players who do not build.
  3. If you have any questions, please email builder@prophecy.lu, write a note to Kail on the live port, note to all on the builder's port or ask someone with a builder flag. We will work out any problems you might have and answer your questions as quickly as possible.
  4. Keep working. Don't let an area sit idle, while the area imps see you on the live port consistently. The faster you finish your area, the faster you get done, the less the imps get on your back for not working. Idle areas are removed, and their builders then are removed from the builder port.
  5. Occasional calls from one of the area imps on the live port will come, asking for builders to check in. This will usually include your builder character name, what area you are now working on, and how much you have left, as well as anticipated time to finish it. If you know someone who is a builder, spread the news to them, and if they aren't able to log on, please pass the info on to us.
  6. Have fun building. It's a long task, sometimes boring, sometimes you may experience writer's block, but work it out and get through it. The full rewards will be that much more when you see your handiwork on the live mud, with players exploring it and looking to you to tell them the secrets.

[edit] Compiled rules from the "news" board

[edit] Tidyness code:

  • Format all room descs. It looks so much nicer.
  • Long descs, if you use them, should start with a capital and end with a period.

[edit] Commands and access:

  • Never, ever, ever, ever use commands you have on this port to try and gain advantages on the Live Port.
  • Never enter other Builders' areas without their permission.
  • Never ever enter areas of currently non-existing Builders.

[edit] General stuff:

  • Don't reset pkonly items on mobs. BP will crash.
  • The helpfiles area_Edit, mob_edit, object_edit, room_edit, level_chart and resets are a great help if you have any questions.
  • Multiplaying on here is allowed to test your own area. But only on here.
  • Please format your areas credits to the current credit system (type area on Live - typing it here might d/c you). Also put a sign of some sorts in your area saying who built the area.
  • If you stumble upon any Spanish messages e-mail them, and the command you issues to get it, to me at rpgfreak@hotmail.com
  • Use the min-max command in Aedit. Min-max # #, where # and # are the minimum-maximum level for the Aquest range. A tip would be to keep it near your intended level-range for the area.
  • Healers must have the word healer in their name and must not be higher level than 150. This does not mean that you should make every healer level 150. Clan healers can, of course, be level 200.
  • Please check out the Builder reward helpfile on live (help builder) to see what Builder points are and what you can do with them. This file may change now and then, so look at it regularly.
  • Rooms cannot have higher healing rate than 200/200, and 200/200 rooms should be rare. Same with furniture.
  • Don't create death traps (i.e., non-escapable rooms with negative healing rate or no_recall/no_clanrecall etc.)
  • Don't use vnums from other areas as resets in your own area. This is bad.
  • Please, always put a reasonable cost and weight on items. I'm really tired of seeing steel weapons, and iron shields, weighing 0-1 pounds. Really.
  • Never ever use the update_always act flag on mobs. This will indeed screw things up on Live. Hopefully we'll get around to removing all buggy/non-usable flags soon enough.

[edit] Compiled rules from "changes" board

  • Don't use the addapply commands to apply perm_spells, use addaffect <spellname> <level>, i.e. addaffect haste 50
  • Immunity to sleep for mobs will render them immune to both the sleep spell and sap attacks
  • 'if class' works for both mprogs and oprogs
  • The dam_noun groups were looked at and listed, you can find them by typing help dam_types or help damtypes
  • Saveover flags can be used on rooms and items. A saveover room will save all items in it over a reboot/crash and a saveover item will stay in the rooms it's in over a reboot/crash
  • Keyrings can be made and are quite much like containers
  • Emily was brought in here, don't tamper with her or try to make her throw quests
  • Oedit delete, medit delete and redit delete were brought it. They all take a vnum as argument (i.e., in medit, delete #) and will permanently delete a room/object/mobile from an area. Note that while it isn't a problem if you delete a room while you're in it, it transfers you to recall (Temple of UL), but since it transfers you to recall (Temple of UL), and doesn’t remove you from "editor mode", it then (naturally, unless you are listed as a Sendar builder) tells you that you have insufficient OLC rights, and boots you out of "editor mode"). It's a lot easier to do it remotely.
  • The 'isquested' check was put in and it only works if the person is in a scrimmage or quested (a must to use for clanhalls, same with the violence check 'violent')

[edit] Builder port rules ("Help rules")

The Builder Port is a very powerful tool granted to mortals deemed worthy of its power. As such, when a builder cannot be trusted, they lose their builder status. The rules on BP are for the most part the same as on live, with a few notable exceptions:

[edit] Aggressive Actions/PK Rules

These do not apply in part or in whole to BP.

[edit] Swearing

You will not be punished for swearing. However, out of courtesy, keep it down.

[edit] Multiplaying

Due to the fact that builders are 93 and above, we encourage area testing with level 1-91 mortal chars. Remember: you are an immortal on BP, thus you can do things you CAN'T do on live.

[edit] Rules not found on Live that apply to BP:

[edit] "Horseplay"

BP is a place to work and create new areas for live. It is NOT a chatroom, a place to test PK skills, or anything which doesn't involve building an area.

[edit] Privacy (Non-Imped areas)

Consider every builder's area to be their home. You must ask before entering, and leave when they log off. Under no circumstances are you ever to explore an area under construction. Failure to comply may result in deletion from BP.

[edit] Implemented Areas/Immortal commands

This is the golden rule of BP. Never are you allowed to explore an area on BP, stat eq, or stat mobs for the purpose of gaining knowledge for use on live. You MAY, as a builder however, check mobs, eq, and mprogs for knowledge to enhance your own area. We, the BP Staff, will know the difference. Use common sense or you'll find out very quickly how much you can be punished for disobeying this rule. Failure to comply can and will result in deletion on BP AND live.

As always, you are responsibile for knowing the rules of BP. Ignorance is never an excuse. We've trusted you with the commands and access you have. Don't screw up.

Refer to 'help standard' to see a list of punishments for violations.

[edit] Builder port rules and punishments ("Help standard")

Punishment on BP is simple. One of 4 things will happen:

[edit] Scenario 1:

You'll be warned. Heed the warning.

[edit] Scenario 2:

You'll be demoted and/or suspended of your builder duties for an appropriate length of time. This is the least harsh punishment.

[edit] Scenario 3:

You'll be permanently relieved of your builder duties. Your areas will be taken over by other, interested builders, and your BP char will be deleted.

[edit] Scenario 4:

You'll be removed from the mud entirely, both live and BP. It's not hard or uncommon to receive this punishment. Needless to say, this is the most harsh.

In this scenario, you did not heed your warning, and you abused our trust. Do not expect sympathy, you will receive none.
